Daily Routine
Literacy/Numeracy lessons every day -other subjects taught through topics, or as a discrete subject if it does not fit into the topic.
Topics being covered for the Summer Term:
Since coming back afetr the Easter holidays, we have completed our topic on Minibeasts and Plants. Future topics will include Dinosaurs, Pirates and the Seaside, during which we will cover all areas of the curriculum. Literacy texts will be incorporated into the topics and Numeracy objectives will be addressed as appropriate alongside on-going targets.
Summer Term is when we begin to encourage more independant learning and all children are developing nicely towards assessment in this area of the Foundation Stage curriculum.
Also in Summer Term, we begin to have outdoor P>E lessons - weather permitting! Please could all the children have in school some trainers or similar footwear for activities on the school field.
Homework
- 30 minutes per week for Reception. This time is best spent reading with your child. Look at, discuss and read together the books sent home. Encourage comments about the pictures and point, with your child, to the individual words, allowing them to identify common words (eg and, the etc).
- 1 hour per week for Year 1. Reading skills develop more consistently during Year 1 and it is important to have a regular routine. Spellings will feature also in this time; a list of words to learn will be sent home weekly and it would be most helpful to spend some time familiarising your child with the words.
Spelling Help
Words which we use in our language many times are known as high frequency words.
Strategies are essential for practising high frequency words, most of which contain awkward, irregular letter patterns.
See separate sheets for help with different strategies.
The words can then be practised using
